A Stroll Through the Sculptures and Vineyards

We began our exploration with a leisurely walk along the estate’s serene pathways. The lush vineyards stretched as far as the eye could see, flanked by elegant sculptures that added an artistic flair to the landscape. One standout piece was the moon-shaped sculpture glowing softly as the sun set, creating an idyllic atmosphere that felt like a perfect blend of human creativity and natural beauty. The meticulously maintained rows of vines and the unique sculptures lining the pathways made this walk a feast for the senses. Each sculpture seemed to tell a story, adding a sense of wonder to the journey.

Exceptional Wine Tasting Experience

The wine tasting at Gerovassiliou was nothing short of exceptional. We had the pleasure of sampling some of the estate’s finest wines, including the aged Malagousia 2020 and the Chardonnay 2020. Both varieties stood out with their distinct and refined notes. The Malagousia impressed us with its depth and aromatic complexity, while the Chardonnay revealed a smooth and balanced profile, perfectly capturing the character of the region. We also tried the aged Evangelo 2019, a wine named after the owner himself. Its bold and mature flavor profile was a testament to the care and expertise poured into its creation. The wines not only showcased the quality of the vineyard but also spoke of its long-standing tradition and innovation.

Delectable Food Pairings

To complement the wines, we were served a selection of dishes that elevated the entire experience. A standout was the salad made with Stilton blue cheese, which paired exquisitely with the red Evangelo. The salad’s bold flavors harmonized beautifully with the wine, enhancing its richness. In addition, we enjoyed an artisanal cheese platter that included a selection of aged cheeses, walnuts, dried fruits, and a delightful fig spread. Each bite harmonized beautifully with the wines. The bruschettas were a highlight on their own, featuring unique and innovative combinations such as:

• Pear and gorgonzola
• Lime and taramasalata
• Goat cheese with beef

Each bruschetta offered a perfect balance of flavors, further enhancing the tasting experience.

A Visit to the Gerovassiliou Museum

As part of our visit, we explored the Gerovassiliou Museum and participated in the guided tour. We experienced all stages of the tour, with the guides proving to be incredibly knowledgeable and accommodating. The museum itself houses one of the world’s largest collections of wine openers, curated by Evangelos Gerovassiliou, the owner of the estate. This fascinating collection added a unique and historical dimension to our visit, showcasing the owner’s passion and dedication to the world of wine.
