Beach Bars Near Thessaloniki
― where to drink with your feet in the sand ―

The stretch of coast immediately south of Thessaloniki — Peraia, Nea Epivates, Agia Triada — transforms every summer into one of the most active beach party strips in northern Greece. From mid-June, the beach bars along the coastal road operate from late morning until well after midnight, blending beach club and nightclub in the way that Greeks do naturally. Here's what you'll find and where.
Peraia: The Main Strip
Peraia is the closest coastal area to Thessaloniki with a genuine beach bar scene — 22 km, about 29 minutes from the city centre. The waterfront road in Peraia has beach bars ranging from relaxed café-style setups to full club-style operations with DJs from mid-afternoon. Most offer sunbed rental during the day that transitions into table service at night. The vibe is very Thessalonian — more local than resort, younger-skewing, open late.
The Peraia strip works for both a lazy afternoon drink in the sun and a proper evening out. Many visitors swim in the afternoon and stay on at the same venue as the music picks up. Parking gets complicated after 20:00 on weekends; taxis from central Thessaloniki are a good option if you're planning a night out.
Agia Triada
A slightly more family-oriented vibe than Peraia but with several solid beach bars along the promenade. The atmosphere peaks mid-afternoon — families leave, the sunbeds fill with people who arrived for sundowners, and the music gets louder. Less late-night than Peraia but perfect for a long afternoon drink situation.
Kassandra Clubs
If Peraia is northern Greece's beach bar scene, Kassandra — specifically the resort strip between Nea Potidaia and Kallithea — is where it upgrades to a full beach club experience. Some venues here are significant operations: 600+ capacity, imported DJs, cocktail menus that wouldn't look out of place in Mykonos. The clientele mixes Thessaloniki summer regulars with international visitors staying at Kassandra resorts. Prices are higher than Peraia. The drive is 53–65 minutes from Thessaloniki.
What to Expect at a Greek Beach Bar
The format: you arrive, claim sunbeds (usually with a minimum spend per person, typically €8–15 on drinks or food), and the sunbeds are yours for the day. Service comes to you. The music progressively gets louder as the afternoon goes on. By early evening, the beach bar transitions into something closer to a club — the sunbeds get cleared or shifted, a dance floor materialises, and the volume increases. In the most intense versions (Kassandra clubs), this can continue until 4–5am.
Practical Notes
- Minimum spend (κατανάλωση) applies at almost all organised beach bars in summer. Ask what it is when you sit down — usually €10–20 per person per sunbed.
- Cocktails run €10–14 at mid-range venues, €16–22 at premium Kassandra clubs.
- Greek frappe (cold instant coffee) remains the most ordered drink by volume at any beach bar, regardless of how upscale the venue is.
- Arrive before 11:00 for good sunbed positions on weekends. By noon in peak season, prime spots are taken.
